Voters will have an opportunity to amend the Georgia Constitution this Fall and affect the taxation of forestland in Georgia. Glad to be part of Georgia's Forest Community

Georgia has had a vibrant forestry community for over a century, and it's still innovating. Forest uses are expanding due to the well managed forest of our state. And the vast majority of this land is in private ownership. Congratulations to the many forest owners who practice good stewardship. New Wood Using Facilities Opening.

Great news for timber markets. Georgia Pacific and Canfor have just announced new and expanded mill operations in Warrenton and Washington, Georgia. We are excited about how this will benefit our client landowners. The combined production output will be over 600 million board feet of lumber. This is an encouraging sign for the economy in general and for our local wood market. America is building again. Both facilities are scheduled to open in 2019. The press releases are below:

Quality Deer Management Association Land Certification Program

  The QDMA unveiled the Land Certification Program at its 2011 National Convention last August. David is a 2009 graduate of Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia. He began his career with VFM in early 2010, and in 2012, moved into corporate forestry harvesting with Plum Creek in Arkansas and then was transferred to South Carolina. Weyerhaeuser Gives Preference to Tree Farmers

Weyerhaeuser recently announced that preference will be given to landowners with Tree Farm Certification.  Preference may include the following: Incentives — The company will maintain a priority market for material from certified Tree Farms, especially when suppliers are put on quotas. Procurement decisions — Where a Vendor Management Plan is used (which scores wood suppliers on a number of metrics) Tree Farm certification will be a positive attribute. Many landowners and hunting clubs are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of wildlife management for the health of their forestland. Wildlife openings and prescribed burning are some of the simplest ways to manage for wildlife.
